Detra Farries Facing Lawsuit

Detra Farries, 32, showed up in El Paso County Court on Wednesday 30 minutes before her court hearing. She sat with family and friends waiting to be advised of the possible charges against her.

On the other side of the courtroom sat Allen Rose’s family. Neither side talked with each other before or after Wednesday’s advisement.

?The family is eager to let the district attorney?s office and the Colorado Springs Police department do their job and continue the investigation and make a determination of whether or not to file charges,? said David McDivitt, Rose family attorney.

McDivitt also told TARGET 13 that the family has filed suit against Farries., “We have a woman who put a piece of metal over the value of a human life,”said McDivitt.

He wouldn?t discuss the details of the suit. McDivitt said the family is focusing on beginning the healing process and waiting to see if the district attorney?s office files charges against Farries.

?The family has been very touched by the support of the community; it?s a tragic incident,? added McDivitt.

Farries didn?t say much after leaving the courtroom. She avoided questions by media; walking to a red SUV, with her family and driving off minutes after the advisement.

Farries will be back in court next week. El Paso County District Attorney Dan May is expected to make a decision then on whether or not to charge her with manslaughter. If she is found guilty of those charges, she could face up to six years in prison.
