Some Getting Two Census Surveys
By TARGET 13 Investigative Reporter Tak Landrock t.landrock@krdo.comCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Filling out the 2010 Census is important for the state of Colorado. It will determine the funding the state gets and how many U.S Congressional districts will represent Colorado. Many have already received their 2010 Census form, but others have received two. Terry Mathews told TARGET 13 he filled the first one in April, but got a second form in the beginning of April. “I was thinking maybe it wasn’t delivered; did it not get back to them for some reason?” said Mathews.
He isn’t alone, TARGET 13 received several calls about multiple census survey going out to the same home. “I didn’t know whether or not I should fill it out and send it back and whether it would be illegal, maybe it was delivered to the wrong address,” said Mathews.
According to Deborah Cameron, a spokesperson for the 2010 Census, it’s not uncommon for people to get two census forms. “What is happening there is that we are delivering replacement questions to certain segments of the community where we had low response rates in year 2000.”
Cameron recommended anyone who gets two forms to simply throw away the duplicate survey; even if you filled it out the second form the U.S. Census would eliminate it from being counted.
“We have a process that goes back and checks those and correlates those if there are any questions,” said Cameron.
You have until Friday to mail back you 2010 Census form, if you don’t someone will come to your home to ask you questions about the number of people living in your house of apartment. If you didn’t get a Census survey you can go to the library and pick one up.
