Winter Retains Hold On Southern Colorado

EL PASO COUNTY – For the second time this week, area drivers found themselves challenged by winter travel conditions–snowpacked roads, blowing snow, limited visibility and icy surfaces.

Early Saturday morning, snow and strong winds combined to deposit several inches on I-25 between north Colorado Springs and Monument Hill. Even the Hill, usually clear in this type of storm, was snow-covered.

The storm was unlike the wet storm more typical of spring which moved through the area Wednesday. Area road crews were on full or partial callouts, but expected to scaled down their efforts in the afternoon. At one point, roads in the county’s northern and eastern regions were considered “extremely hazardous” by a supervisor.

A spell of better weather expected Easter week should give crews a much-needed break.
