Shooting Death In Colorado Springs Sunday Morning

COLORADO SPRINGS – NEWSCHANNEL 13 has confirmed with Colorado Springs police that a man died Sunday morning in a shooting.

Lt. David Whitlock says the victim died of an apparent gunshot wound at around 5:30 a.m. Lt. Whitlock adds there are a couple of witnesses they are interviewing at this time, but there are no suspectsso far.

Police tell NEWSCHANNEL 13 the man was declared dead at5:40 a.m., outside Southwest Autoat 2444 Platte Place near the intersection of Platte and Boulder. The original call was to help the victim. According to police, several people were present during the shooting, and they are among those being questioned.

CSPD has called out their Major Crimes Unit to investigate. Shortly after the death was announced, police began setting up a perimeter around the scene. No suspects are in custody at this time.The identity of the shooting victim is being withheld until the appropriate notifications can be made.

The El Paso County Coroners Office will determine the cause and manner of the death. If this death is ruled a homicide, this would be the 10th in 2009. There wereeight homicides in the City of Colorado Springs at this time in 2008.
