Marian House Serving The Needy
COLORADO SPRINGS – Volunteers at the Marian House Soup Kitchen are giving people a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. “Most people that come here are very thankful, just as we are for having the help and community support,” said Marian House Soup Kitchen Director Paul Konecny.
35 to 40 volunteers are working at the soup kitchen on a day-to-day basis. They serve anywhere from 600 to 700 meals a day to those in need. Up to 700 pounds of meat is served per week.
Those numbers have gone up since the economy went bad. “The demand has been higher since we moved into the new building on June 3rd. We’ve had an increase of about 40% of cliental coming for meals,” said Konecny.
This Thanksgiving meal was not just a holiday special. The Marion House Soup Kitchenon Bijou operates 365 days a year.
