Loveland Vet Gets Long-Delayed Edals From Vietnam

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) – Nearly 41 years after he earned them, a

Vietnam veteran from Loveland has received his Bronze Star, his

second Purple Heart and two other medals.

Dennis Henneberg was told he earned the medals in a 1967

firefight. He was wounded but refused evacuation so he could return

to the battle, only to be wounded a second time.

He got one Purple Heart, but because of a clerical error, he

never got the second, or the Bronze Star, Good Conduct and Vietnam

Service medals.

Debbie Pierson and others at the Larimer County Veterans Service

Office worked with Sen. Wayne Allard to get Henneberg his medals.

They arrived in the mail Monday.

He says it would have been nice to have them sooner but adds,

“It probably means more now.”
