Colorado unemployment numbers continue to drop

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Nationally, initial unemployment claims dropped below one million last week, marking the first time since March that the number of initial claims dipped below one million.

In Colorado, the number of jobless claims is also seeing a decline.

Initial unemployment claims were also at its lowest level since March, with a little over 6,000 people filing for unemployment benefits last week.

This is down by nearly 1,000 claims compared to the week before and down by 98,000 claims compared to the peak in mid-April.

Statewide, continued unemployment claims are dropping, but we are still seeing much higher than normal numbers.

Despite, the drop statewide, the newest numbers in El Paso County which were taken for the week ending on July 25, show a slight uptick in initial claims. A little over 1,000 people sought jobless benefits during the week of July 25.
