The Cheyenne Mountain boys tennis team looking to repeat

Cheyenne Mountain enters the year as the reigning state champs and they're lucky to have a shot to repeat after CHSAA gave tennis the green light, "Yeah, so fortunate. I play lacrosse too, and our season got canceled. That sucked because we had just lost in the finals there. We were trying to get back. It was just a flip-flop situation. Now that we do have this chance, we just value it even more," says Cheyenne Mountain senior, Carver Ward. Robbie Metz added, "We were prepared for the reality of not being able to play. We're just so fortunate to be able to play even though it's like a month long. Even a week long season would be a blessing." The season is shorter, the state tournament was shortened by a day, which means there are no second chances. It'll be win or go home. It makes every match that much more important. It's going to be a lot more intense. We are having at least two matches a week, sometimes three. I looked at our schedule and we are playing one of our toughest opponents after regionals in the same day. It's actually going to be a lot crazier this year," says Metz, "It's high pressure. Certainly high-pressure. I don't know how I feel about it. It'll be interesting for sure," says Ward. Cheyenne Mountain's state crown ended a six year title drought. The last time the tennis team won a title, it capped a three-peat, maybe they can do it again but that means this year's team has to repeat, "I think it would mean the world. It would be amazing to put another plaque up on our fence. 2020," says Ward. They've got a message for the rest of the state, "WATCH OUT," says Metz.
