State Wrestling – Semifinals
Pueblo County freshman Boden White clinched a spot int eh state title game with a win by decision over Cheyenne Mountain's Nick Grizales. White will take on Pueblo East freshman Weston Dalton in the Class 4A 120 pound weight class final, "My teammates and my parents told me, 'Hey you've got this. You've just to visualize yourself.' The night before every match of this tournament I've just been visualizing myself getting to the state championships," says White. Two-time defending champ Isaiah Gamez from La Junta has a shot to three-peat. He pinned his opponent in the third round to secure a spot in the Class 3A 120 pound weight class final, "This one isn't just about being my third time to the finals. This is about revenge. This is about showing them what's mine and ultimately completing my goal that I wanted to do in high school," says Gamez.
Aaden Valdez has not won a state wrestling title, yet, but he has a shot to wrap up his senior year as a champion after beating Air Academy's Bailey Bad-Wound by major decision. He''l compete in the Class 4A 145 pound weight class final, "It means a lot. It's just one of those things. There's benchmarks that show how well you've been doing throughout the season. It shows you the reason why you put in the hard work during the season and why you put in the extra time," says Valdez.
Florence senior Johnny Masopust also has never won a state crown but he is in position to do it now, after winning by decision over Jimmy Ramirez of Jefferson. Masopust will compete in the Class 3A 126 pound weight class final.
There is only one more match to win, those that wrestling on Saturday night and win will be champions forever.
