Only Colorado Springs movie theater reopened wraps up first weekend

Cinemark Tinseltown USA and XD on Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Several movie theaters in the city are trying their best to bounce back after COVID-19 restrictions forced them to close for months.

The Cinemark Tinseltown USA and XD movie theater on Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard reopened for business Friday with a surprising film selection and some extra COVID-19 precautions.

Rather than playing new movies (because there aren't many), the cinema is running classics like Jurassic park, Back to the Future, and Mean Girls -- which was sold out Sunday night.

Movie-goers we spoke with told KRDO, while the theater is running things a little differently, they're just happy to be back.

"I'm excited to, you know, finally do something different instead of staying home all the time," said Justin Jones.

"It feels good, able to go out for a date night again," Will Crandall agreed. "Life goes on whether COVID is around or not, you know? You gotta be happy either way."

The Cinemark Tinseltown USA and XD location on Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard is the only movie theater open in Colorado Springs right now. We'll be sure to update you on KRDO NewsChannel 13 and here on KRDO.com when the others reopen.
