Only Colorado Springs movie theater reopened wraps up first weekend

Cinemark Tinseltown USA and XD on Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Several movie theaters in the city are trying their best to bounce back after COVID-19 restrictions forced them to close for months.

The Cinemark Tinseltown USA and XD movie theater on Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard reopened for business Friday with a surprising film selection and some extra COVID-19 precautions.

Rather than playing new movies (because there aren't many), the cinema is running classics like Jurassic park, Back to the Future, and Mean Girls -- which was sold out Sunday night.

Movie-goers we spoke with told KRDO, while the theater is running things a little differently, they're just happy to be back.

"I'm excited to, you know, finally do something different instead of staying home all the time," said Justin Jones.

"It feels good, able to go out for a date night again," Will Crandall agreed. "Life goes on whether COVID is around or not, you know? You gotta be happy either way."

The Cinemark Tinseltown USA and XD location on Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard is the only movie theater open in Colorado Springs right now. We'll be sure to update you on KRDO NewsChannel 13 and here on KRDO.com when the others reopen.

  1. The article is the news. This is KRDO’s way of showing everything is going back to normal. People going back to work in an industry, like a theater, that causes a conducive environment for COVID to spread more easily than before. We in the community are getting to see the media trickle reports that align with the Government’s sediment that this virus isn’t that bad. That way, “We the People” don’t freak out when schools go back in session.
Most don’t believe me and that is fine, but I would pose this question, Why did the courthouse shut down to essential personnel and staffing only after just 1 courthouse employee tested positive? This isn’t the same threshold for the education systems yet our government court staff are better protected because they understand the mortality of this virus.
