Two arrested in early July for obstructing Aspen Acres fire response in Beulah

BEULAH, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two people were arrested in separate incidents for allegedly obstructing firefighting efforts during the Aspen Acres fire, according to authorities.

The first arrest happened on July 2. Teddy Thurman, 69, of Beulah, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a firefighter.

Authorities said Thurman did not evacuate despite the mandatory evacuation order. He was reportedly driving around town and was told he needed to remain on his property because firefighters were actively working in the area and roads needed to stay clear for emergency crews. Officials said Thurman refused multiple orders to stay at his home before he was arrested.

The second, unrelated arrest happened on July 3. Michael Anderson, 60, also of Beulah, was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of government operations.

According to authorities, Anderson had previously been warned not to be on the roads after he was seen recording and livestreaming homes and properties in the mandatory evacuation area. Officials said he returned to the area on July 3 and was arrested.

Both arrests were made during ongoing firefighting operations for the Aspen Acres fire.
