Pilot unhurt after emergency landing in Otero County

The Otero County Sheriff’s Office says a pilot is safe after being forced to make an emergency landing at the Fowler Airport.

First responders rushed to the airport when the pilot reported that his landing gear was damaged at around 9:30 a.m.

The pilot circled the airport to burn off as much fuel as possible before attempting to land.

At 9:55 a.m., the pilot made his move. The plane was further damaged when it skidded off the runway and into an adjacent field, but the pilot was not hurt.

The pilot’s name was not released.

The FAA will investigate the crash.

The Fowler Airport is about an 80 mile drive southeast of Colorado Springs.
