Colorado Springs Police searching for trio in home invasion, one suspect possibly shot

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police are searching for three suspects in an eastside Colorado Springs home invasion Thursday night. Investigators believe one of the suspects might be injured.

Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department were sent to a quiet, old neighborhood at the 1300 block of Cumberland St. for a home invasion Thursday at 11:30 p.m.

The homeowner, Bob Grafft, said his daughter let their dog out late Thursday night, while he was sleeping. According to CSPD, three masked suspects entered a home through the open backdoor while the daughter was with the dog.

Grafft said two suspects went downstairs to the basement while the other, with a sawed-off shotgun, went to the bedroom. When his daughter, Lisa, realized people were in the home, she grabbed a gun.

Grafft said he was awakened by his daughter telling the suspect with the shotgun to get out or she will shoot him. When the suspect ran, Lisa shot him in the shoulder, according to Grafft.

All three suspects left the house and ran down the street, where CSPD said they left in a vehicle.

“It's a little worrying that they're still out there running loose,” said Bob Falcone, who lives a block down the street from the home invasion.

Neighbors said there was a lot of commotion Thursday night with at least five police cars responding to the scene.

“In the 30 years or more I’ve lived here, I've never had anything like that happen,” Falcone said.

According to CSPD, local hospitals were notified of the incident but as of this article no one has gone to a hospital with a gunshot wound.

CSPD said the three suspects were all male and their ages are unknown. They haven’t identified any suspects yet and no arrests have been made. But the agency said the incident was likely a targeted act and not a robbery of a random home.

Falcone said he’s never moved in more than 30 years because the neighborhood is nice and quiet.

“We're kind of close to everything, but not a lot of through traffic in here,” he said. “Just a really nice little neighborhood.”

He said it’s unsettling knowing something like that can happen in such a peaceful area.

“This is a quiet neighborhood,” Falcone said. “I hope it stays that way.”
