Will the Colorado Springs Supertanker help fight the fire in Canada?

This week, a new wildfire fighting tool was unveiled in Colorado Springs.

The Supertanker is built to battle large wildfires.

Will it be sent to the Ft. McMurray fire in Alberta, Canada?

The short answer is no.

The plane is still in the process of being certified by the FAA.

Those certifications won’t be done for about another month.

The company released this statement regarding the supertanker:

“The Global SuperTanker is in the process of completing the FAA’s series of deliberate inspections, which are required of each aircraft modification.

While the SuperTanker is nearing completion, all FAA certifications are not complete. The FAA has been cooperative and aggressive in certifying the Spirit of John Muir; however until certification is complete the SuperTanker cannot support fire suppression. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this horrific fire,” said Jim Wheeler, President and CEO of Global SuperTanker Services, LLC.”
