Little concern about Zika Virus in El Paso County
El Paso County Health leaders gave an update on the Zika Virus at an El Paso County Commissioners meeting Tuesday.
Health leaders reassured commissioners of the low likelihood of transmission for people in the area. They said the mosquito that carries the virus, Aedes, doesn’t live in Colorado and would likely not survive in the state.
They said they have various information resources and continuously work with the state health department and meet with healthcare providers to educate others about the Zika Virus.
Zika Virus is mostly spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Common symptoms include fever, rash, joint pain and conjetivitis. Only 20 percent of people normally exhibit symptoms. There is no vaccine or medication to prevent it.
