Reports: Broncos, Ware restructure deal

It’s been an eventful first week of free agency in Broncos Country.

Saturday Denver secured one of their key defensive pieces: DeMarcus Ware.

Earlier in the offseason it was reported that there was a chance the Broncos may release Ware as he carried a nearly $12 million salary cap hit heading into next year.

However, multiple reports Saturday indicated that the Broncos managed to restructure his deal to reduce his base salary and bring down that cap number.

Ware was also scheduled to earn a $3 million bonus on Sunday, those same reports state Denver negotiated that down to $2 million.

An 8-time Pro Bowler, Ware was second on the team in sacks and quarterback hits last year and he’ll turn 34 in July.
The Broncos are also working to restructure Tackle Ryan Clady’s deal – but it doesn’t sound like they’ve reached a resolution yet.

In other free agent news, the Broncos have until Tuesday to make a decision on free agent Running Back C.J. Anderson.

Anderson signed a four year $18 million offer sheet with the Dolphins coached by former Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase earlier this week.

If Denver let’s Anderson walk, they’ll likely run into next season without their entire starting backfield from most of 2015: Peyton Manning retired, Brock Osweiler signed in Houston, and Running Back Ronnie Hillman is also an unrestricted free agent.
