Pueblo man accused of abusing twin toddlers

The Pueblo Police Department is investigating a child abuse case involving twin toddlers.

The investigation began on March 5 when police were called to Parkview Pueblo West on a report of a possible child abuse involving a 2-year-old victim.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the child had been at two Pueblo homes in the preceding 24 hours. The child’s twin was found at one of those homes during a search.

Police say both children had suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Denver.

Jacob Rico Sandoval, 21, faces two counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police say Sandoval is a friend of the children’s mother and that he was caring for them when the injuries happened.

Additional people may face charges in this case, police said.

The State of Colorado has a toll-free hotline to report suspected cases of abuse and neglect. The number is 1-844-CO-4-KIDS (1-844-264-5437)
