Windy Workday Wednesday

Tuesday’s wind was relentless, not letting up from dusk through dawn. And those gusts make ‘tough work’ for those who are out in it all day or night and a day where you had to hold on to more than your hat.

Unlike last week’s wind event where we saw lulls and gusts this wind stayed consistent, and potentially dangerous.

If you looked at any flag today, you saw it whipping. And forget about trying to keep your garbage can from tipping. Many neighborhoods were strewn with fallen garbage cans with paper and other trash blowing around.

Trash collectors we spoke with say days like today are especially challenging. Steven Sandoval of Springs Waste Systems explained how.

“The biggest challenge is getting the stuff to go inside the truck, especially recycling, because it’s not bagged, it’s just loosely put in the container. When the truck takes it up and turns it upside down, it’s in the air upside down and it doesn’t take much to send it all over the neighborhood,” he said.

Construction crews also battled windy conditions. Allergy sufferers had a rough one too.

Unfortunately, these conditions will persist through the evening, so be sure to secure your lawn furniture, garbage cans … and your hat.
