Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve celebrations in Colorado Springs, Pueblo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Southern Colorado residents, especially those who have moved here in recent years, may be wondering where they can go to celebrate the new year.

The region has lacked a signature event, and has relied on a variety of smaller events to appeal to a wider range of people.

A new event this year is called Night of Magnificence; it offers dancing, food, drinks, gambling and entertainment; tickets start at $50.

The even will be held at COS City Hub, a new venue located at 4304 Austin Bluffs Parkway; for more information, visit: https://www.chieftain.com/story/news/2022/12/29/new-years-eve-things-to-do-in-pueblo-to-ring-in-2023/69764448007/.

TerryJosiah Sharpe is the CEO of Anthem Music Enterprises, one of two groups planning the event, said that the hub was part of the Discovery Church next door before the church converted it into an entertainment venue.

“They just understood that a lot of people are hesitant to come to any kind of a place that’s labeled any type of a religious name or title, or under the name of a church," he explained. "So why not create a space that is more inviting of the entire community?”

A crew began installing a dance floor Friday in preparation for the event.

"The capacity here is 1,450 but we're cutting off attendance for New Year's Eve at 1,000," he explained. "We need at least 500 to break even. This area really needs a signature New Year's event. This location became available just a few months ago after another venue we wanted, closed."

Another new event in Colorado Springs, NYE on the Avenue, will be held along Colorado Avenue in Old Colorado City, on the city's west side.

The center of that event is the block-long Colbrunn Court; it has stylish overhead lighting and was re-designed several years ago to serve as a venue for special events.

"The West Side hasn't really had a New Year's Eve Event, I don't think ever," said Lauren DeMarco, event coordinator. "So we really wanted to bring an event to the West Side and highlight these amazing lights we have, and bring people together and just enjoy it. And the best thing is that admission is free."

In the past, the Antlers Hotel downtown has been the center of New Year's Eve events; KRDO is waiting on a response from the hotel about what its plans are for Saturday night.

According to KRDO's news partner, The Pueblo Chieftain, ten different events are available to attend; for more details, visit: https://www.chieftain.com/story/news/2022/12/29/new-years-eve-things-to-do-in-pueblo-to-ring-in-2023/69764448007/.

One of the headliners is a concert featuring live music from four performers at the Pueblo Convention Center.

"I think a lot of the events that are going on, are established events," said Duane Nava, president and CEO of the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. "Some of these venues -- bars and restaurants -- this is a way to have a draw, to bring people in. We have one big event going on at the Convention Center this year. So there are promoters and people in Pueblo trying to put events on; that being a new one."
