Investigation into crash involving a tree ends in two arrested in Colorado Springs for DUI

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two people were arrested for driving under the influence after officers respond to an initial crash and discovered a second one, which also reportedly involved alcohol.

Wednesday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department was called to Sturgis Road near North Circle Drive, just after 1 a.m. According to CSFD, the driver was going about 100 mph when they hit a stop sign and a white van, flipping into a tree.

The driver was trapped in their vehicle until rescue crews were able to get them out. CSFD said the driver only suffered minor injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said the driver was reportedly drunk at the time of the crash.

While investigating this crash, officers stopped two other drivers unrelated to this crash. The first drove around the roadblock and was stopped inside the crash scene. The second was found by officers as they drove back to the station.

Both were arrested for a DUI.
