Time to trade in your lights

If you’re getting ready to decorate but are afraid that paying for all those lights means breaking the bank, Colorado Springs Utilities wants to help you.

Through Dec. 23rd, you can trade in up to three sets of old lights and get a coupon for half off of LED lights.

The coupons are good at any ACE Hardware location in Colorado Springs and can be picked up at Utilities Conservation & Environmental Center on the city’s west side.

The new LED lights are a little more expensive than regular lights, but they pay for themselves quickly.

“They use probably around 10 per cent of the energy of your old lights, which means you can have much longer strands without so many connections so there’s a lot of safety that goes along with these Christmas lights,” said Douglas Bursnall of Colorado Springs Utilities.

Utilities says that the number of coupons they have to give out is unlimited.
