WWII veteran Maj. Henry ‘Duke’ Boswell dies at 91

Colorado Springs resident and World War II Army veteran Maj. Henry “Duke” Boswell has died. He was 91.

The Gazette reports that Boswell died Saturday. Funeral and memorial services are pending.

Boswell was a survivor of combat in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate a concentration camp in Germany. He made four combat parachute jumps with the 82nd Airborne in Sicily, Italy, Normandy and The Netherlands.

Born in North Carolina, Boswell joined the National Guard in 1940 as a 16-year-old. He forged his mother’s name on the enlistment papers.

He served through World War II and into the Korean War, where he was wounded by mortar fire.

He retired from the Army in 1963 and moved to Colorado Springs where he taught in School District 11.
