Police: Man stole nearly $6,000 in liquor from Aspen area

Police are looking for a Texas man they say stole nearly $6,000 of top-shelf liquor from stores in the Aspen area.

The Aspen Daily News reports that the Snowmass Village Police Department says a 40-year-old Texan dressed as construction worker Tuesday and slipped Johnny Walker Blue, Don Perignon champagne, wine and other spirits into his baggy clothes.

Police say he targeted stores in Aspen, Snowmass Village and Basalt.

Snowmass Sgt. Dave Heivly called the man a “true pro” who gregariously chatted with staff before the thefts.

Police Chief Brian Olson says police think the construction outfit is a ruse and that it “works to some degree.” Police say the man told employees he was working on a cell tower project in Woody Creek, although workers there denied that.
