Tornado suspected in blowdown that closed popular campground

The US Forest Service says a suspected tornado is responsible for a six acre blowdown near Deckers.

The damage happened when thunderstorms blew through the area on Tuesday.

T he Devils Head Fire Tower, campground, trailhead and picnic ground are closed because of the damage. The forest service says the gate is locked at the Devils Head turnoff and that for your safety; you should stay out of the closed area.

Forest managers are assessing the damage from this tornado and the Pike Hotshots are working to remove downed trees and dangerous snags.

There is no estimate on when the area will reopen.
