Person hit with bat, shot at after responding to Craigslist ad

Colorado Springs Police say a car for sale ad on Craigslist was apparently posted as a trap.

The incident happened in the 1400 block of Alvarado Dr., near E. Fountain Blvd. and S. Academy Blvd., and was reported at 10:43 a.m. on January 15, 2015.

Police say the victim went to the address to buy a car he saw on Craigslist. They say that when the victim handed over the cash for the car, the “seller” turned and ran.

The victim gave chase, eventually catching up to the man near Verde Dr. and Zebulon Dr. The two fought and the man, who police are calling a suspect, pulled a gun.

A second person who was apparently working with the suspect showed up and hit the victim in the head with a bat.

Police say the victim then continued to chase the man into a nearby field. They say that’s when the suspect fired a shot at the victim.

Police believe the suspect and the man who hit the victim with a bat got away in a black Altima. The car may have a temporary tag.
