Suspect in Pueblo shooting that injured two police officers identified

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- New information has been released on an officer-involved shooting in Pueblo, including the name of the suspect.

On June 29, 2022, at approximately 3:19 p.m., officers with the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) were dispatched to a shooting near Fountain Creek.

At the scene, police found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound approximately 300 yards east of the 4500 block of Dillon Dr.

According to PPD, officers began searching the area and eventually found the suspect 400 yards south of the scene.

PPD says officers approached the suspect, identified as 66-year-old Mark Sales, in their patrol car. That's when Sales fired rounds at the officers.

One round shattered the passenger window, causing minor injuries to one of the officers.

The two officers returned fire and shot Sales. According to PPD, Sales was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to PPD, both responding officers sustained minor injuries and the female victim was transferred to a local hospital.

The Pueblo County Coroner has scheduled an autopsy. The coroner's office confirmed Sales died from apparent gunshot wounds.

The investigation is led by the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.
