Trial opens in Del Norte for double slaying suspect

Jury selection begins Wednesday in Del Norte in the trial of double homicide suspect Daniel Bessey.

The Alamosa Valley Courier reports that jury selection was moved to the Knights of Columbus hall in Del Norte to accommodate more people.

Bessey is charged with murder in the 2012 deaths of 54-year-old elementary school custodian John Salazar and 29-year-old Sarah Beasley, who shared a home with Salazar.

Prosecutors say Bessey had once been in a relationship with Beasley and was living in Saguache, south of Monte Vista, at the time of the shootings.

Bessey was arrested last year in Oklahoma.
