UPDATE: Victim ID’d in Springs homicide investigation

Colorado Springs Police are investigating a homicide that happened in the 1200 block of Rushmore Drive.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Alicia Montoya.

The initial call came in as a disturbance. Both police and firefighters responded to the home in the southeastern part of the city near Fountain Boulevard and Chelton Road.

Neighbor Lance Riehl said he looked outside his window as the sirens approached.

“Two cops immediately came to the door and they kicked in the door and within a few seconds a lady came out and her hair was on fire and there were also some flames inside the house I could see,” said Riehl.

Another neighbor said a man stabbed his wife.

Spokesperson Sgt. Joel Kernwould not confirm if a woman had been stabbed in a domestic dispute with her husband.

Two adults asked officers at the crime scene about a boy in the home at the time. Kern would not confirm a child was home at the time.

Riehl said he saw a man led out of the home in handcuffs. Kern said police did not have anyone in custody, and there was not threat to the public.

We will have more information as it comes into the newsroom.
