The numbers are low for people who want to be the next Pueblo City Council member

There are only three people competing for former City Council President Sandy Daff’s seat, that’s compared to 23 people who were interviewed for former Councilman Chris Kaufman’s position.

Daff resigned last month amid allegations of violating the Colorado Sunshine Laws by discussing public policy issues through email with Kaufman, current Councilwoman Ami Nawrocki and former Pueblo County Transportation Director Greg Severance.

Debra Hill is a public information officer for the city. She said the reason why there is a low turnout is because people who are interviewing for Daff’s seat are all part of District 4; Kaufman’s position was as an at-large representative, which means anyone could apply for the seat.

The candidates so far are Brian Casaus, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Seth Fernandez, who works for a medical records company, and Ralph O’Neal, a veteran who works at Pueblo Community College.

The deadline to turn in your applications is Friday by 5 p.m.
