Snow Plows prepare for tomorrow’s drive

City and state snow crews prepared for more snow in the forecast ahead of Wednesday’s commute.

Snow and ice slowed down drivers across Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

There is another system moving in, with conditions on the roads expected to be similar to Tuesday’s commute.

Colorado Springs Streets Division operations managerDavid Scalfri said he is waiting to see what this system brings, before deciding if a full crew or a partial crew will be called in.

He said as of Tuesday night, his crews were working on major thorough fares, intersections and curves.

He said warm roads have not helped conditions on the streets.

“At first it could have been seen as a help but it actually turned into a hindrance because when the snow hit, it melted, and then it froze,” said Scalfri.

Colorado Department of Transportation has almost 40 trucks in El Paso and Teller Counties. The trucks are laying down de-icer and a sand and salt mix.

A spokesperson with C-DOT said trucks will “definitely be out tomorrow.”
