No hard feelings among current, future state senators

There are no hard feelings in the District 3 Senate race.

Leroy Garcia defeated state Sen. George Rivera last week by about 10 points.

Rivera won the senate seat after a recall election against former state Sen. Angela Giron.

A recall effort started after Giron helped push forward three controversial gun bills in the state. The bills mandated background checks for private and online gun sales, and limited magazine sizes.

Despite the mid-term election, both Garcia and Rivera said they are going to continue fighting for Pueblo.

“I had several bills that I was prepared to introduce into the senate that would be beneficial for Pueblo. I will be discussing with senate leadership about some of these bills to see if someone wants to carry that torch forward,” Rivera said.

“I am going to continue to work hard every day because we have a lot of needs that need to happen in this community with a big focus on roads and infrastructure,” Garcia said.

Rivera said he called Garcia to congratulate him on the victory.

Garcia will become District 3 state senator in January.
