1 dead in small-plane crash near Boulder airport

At least one person is dead after a single-engine plane crashed and caught fire on a road north of Boulder’s airport.

Boulder County sheriff’s Cmdr. Jeff Hendry says the preliminary investigation into Monday morning’s crash indicates the plane hit the road propeller-first. However, he says the circumstances leading up to the crash, the number of people on board and its destination aren’t yet known.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the 35-year-old victim, but Scott Shatzer with the National Gay Pilots Association says the organization’s executive director, Steven Moore, was killed in the crash.

No one on the ground was injured.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly on the road that runs along open fields lined with fences.
