A look at Memorial Day weekend activities this year

COLORADO (KRDO) -- Looking for something to do this Memorial Day weekend? Below are a few events happening around Colorado this year.

Memorial Day Run & March

Sunday, Colorado Veterans Project (CVP) is hosting its Memorial Day Run and March for the eighth time. This run raises funds and collects food donations that will help Colorado veterans experiencing homelessness. The Presentation of Colors, opening remarks, and National Anthem begins at UCHealth Park at 4835 Tutt Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO at 7:30 a.m. The race itself starts at 8 a.m. Afterward, people can enjoy the Freedom Fest Celebration until 3 p.m.

Territory Days in Old Colorado City

Territory Days in Old Colorado City is back! This Memorial Day weekend, enjoy Colorado's largest street fair. The event has food, vendors selling handcrafts, patriotic tributes, live music, and more. Admission to Territory Days is free. The 47th Annual Territory Days begins Saturday, May 28, and runs through Monday, May 30.

Meadow Grass Music Festival

Friday kicks off the 13th annual Meadowgrass Music Festival in Black Forest. The festival showcases more than 20 national, regional, and local bands. There's everything from camping, a beer festival, food, and activities for the kids. Gates open at 10 a.m. each day. Kids ages 12 and under get in free.

Mesa Drive-In

Pueblo's Mesa Drive-In is officially open. This is one of the oldest standing drive-in theaters in the country, opening in 1951. The drive-in recently came under new owners who revamped part of the theater. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the first movie begins at 8:30 p.m. People can buy tickets online or at the gate.

Elitch Gardens

If you're looking for something to keep cool, the Elitch Gardens Island Kingdom Water Park opens for the season Saturday, May 28. The park is open through Labor Day weekend daily between 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be a professional firework show lighting up the Downtown Denver Skyline Sunday, May 29, to celebrate Memorial Day.

Rocky Mountain Vibes vs. Glacier Range Riders

The Rocky Mountain Vibes are taking on the Glacier Range Riders Saturday at 6:30 p.m. They'll face off again Sunday at UCHealth Park. Tickets for both games are available here.

Town of Monument's Memorial Day Ceremony

A Memorial Day ceremony is happening Monday, May 30, at the Monument Cemetery. During the ceremony, Colorado House District 20 Representative Terri Carver and Colorado State Senator Paul Lundeen are speaking. Monument Mayor Don Wilson will serve as the emcee. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Hiking and being outdoors

With the Memorial Day weekend weather projected to be sunny, spending the three-day weekend enjoying Colorado's outdoors is always a good idea. From hiking at Garden of the Gods to enjoying the Pueblo River Trail or walking around the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, there are numerous places to get outside and soak up the sun this weekend.
