Mayor’s 2015 budget proposal includes money for more police officers and bus service

Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach presented his 2015 budget proposal to city council Monday (9/6/14).

The mayor’s office said it was able to present a balanced budget proposal to council thanks to departments city-wide that found ways to cut $3.96 million dollars from the 2015 general fund budget.

The savings would also free up money to hire 20 additional police officers, increase frequency of bus service, improve the city’s information technology network and data center and allocate more funds for the Acacia Park Ice Rink and Hub.

The proposed general fund budget for 2015 is three percent higher than the 2014 budget.

A public meeting on the proposed budget will be held on October 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
