Crews put out wildland fire after semi-truck crashes, catches on fire
FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- Multiple crews responded to an overnight fire Tuesday caused by a crashed semi-truck.
According to police, the Fountain Fire Department responded to an accident involving a semi-truck on southbound I-25 at mile marker 132 at 2:40 a.m., near Fort Carson.
The Fountain Police Department (FPD) says the semi was driving when one of the tires blew, pushing the truck off the road and into a construction sign.
Police say that's when a fire started near the cabin and quickly spread into the woodland area between I-25 and the frontage road just outside Fort Carson.
According to police, the driver managed to escape with only minor injuries and wasn't taken to a hospital.
FPD says the fire burned approximately one acre before they were able to contain it. Colorado State Patrol and El Paso County Hazmat teams responded and unloaded around 100 gallons of diesel fuel from the semi's saddle tanks.
CSP is investigating the traffic accident.

According to FPD, Hanover, Security, and Fort Carson Fire also responded to the crash.
