Chieftain: Pueblo South wrestling coach suspended
South High School wrestling coach Jerry Sisneros was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this week and is not with the Colts at the Class 4A state high school wrestling championships in Denver, our partners at The Pueblo Chieftain report.
Pueblo City Schools spokesman Scott Jones on Friday said Sisneros is on “indefinite” leave.
“He is on paid administrative leave pending an evaluation of a recent personal matter at South,” Jones said. “Because it is personnel-related, we are declining further comment.”
According to several sources, Sisneros was allegedly involved in an altercation with a student earlier this week at the school. No one would confirm whether that altercation was physical in nature.
The state wrestling championships began Thursday and conclude tonight at the Pepsi Center. Longtime assistant Tim Urenda is coaching the Colts and they advanced four wrestlers into championship semifinal matches Friday night.
Sisneros is in his 27th year as wrestling coach at South. The Colts won state team championships in 1997, 2004 and 2005 under his direction. They also finished as runners-up in 1999, 2006 and 2012.
Attempts to reach Sisneros on Friday were unsuccessful.
