Limited GOP field for Colo. governor debates
Some Republicans running for governor in Colorado will meet Tuesday for their first debate.
Four of six Republicans candidates seeking the nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper are scheduled to debate in Denver. Two of the best-known candidates – Secretary of State Scott Gessler and former congressman Tom Tancredo – have declined debates during the primary season.
Tancredo and Gessler say that Republican primary debates will give Hickenlooper more ammunition for the fall campaign. Candidates who are debating include state Sen. Greg Brophy and former state Sen. Mike Kopp.
Colorado’s primary elections are June 24. Hickenlooper has no Democratic opposition for the nomination.
