Wife of Broomfield murder suspect arrested

Another arrest has been made in the death of a man whose body was found on a Broomfield street.

The Broomfield Enterprise reported Carissa Koch, 26, was arrested Wednesday on charges of tampering with physical evidence and being an accessory to a crime. Her husband Matthew P. Burnett, 32, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of James Clifford Fernandez, 34.

Police said Fernandez’ body was found Aug. 17 after he got in an argument with Burnett at the couple’s home. Koch is suspected of trying to clean up blood stains just after the slaying.

An arrest affidavit said Burnett punched Fernandez in the face and shoved him into a table after finding him in a “compromising position” with his wife Aug. 16. Fernandez sustained head trauma during the struggle.
