Judge overturns Englewood sex offender law

A federal judge has overturned an Englewood ordinance that restricts where convicted sex offenders can live.

U.S. District Judge R. Brooke Jackson said the ordinance leaves few places for offenders to live and pushes them into neighboring cities.

According to the Denver Post, the ordinance made it a crime for registered offenders to live within 2,000 feet of any school, park or playground, or 1,000 feet of any licensed day care center, recreation center or swimming pool. Also off limits were any properties located next to a bus stop, walk-to-school route or recreational trail.
