Speed, alcohol factors in deadly motorcycle crash

Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that shut down the southbound lanes of Union Boulevard near Garden Ranch Drive Friday.

Colorado Springs police said a 33-year-old was killed in the crash. Alcohol and speed were factors in the accident, police said.

Authorities said the motorcycle rider was traveling south on Union at a high speed. A vehicle heading north tried to turn onto Collegiate Drive. Police said the motorcycle rider then struck the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, also 33 years old, was processed for driving under the influence.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
