Fort Carson helicopter unit formally activating

Fort Carson’s new helicopter brigade is formally activating and installing its commander.

A ceremony for the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade is planned for Tuesday at Fort Carson.

Brig. Gen. Michael A. Bills, senior mission commander at Fort Carson, will remove the brigade’s flags from their case and present them to Col. Robert T. Ault, the brigade’s commander.

Ault was previously deputy director of Army Aviation for U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The brigade is known as the “Iron Eagles.” It was formed in 1957 at Fort Lewis, Wash. It moved to Fort Hood, Texas, in 1995 and was deactivated in 2011.

At Fort Carson, it will be part of the 4th Infantry Division.
