Homicide victim honored by her Commanding Officer

28 year old Kimberly Walker is not being forgotten by her Commanding Officer at Fort Riley Kansas. Walker’s body was found strangled inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel this past weekend. Montrell Mayo is being linked to her killing. He is in custody in his hometown of Greenville North Carolina.

Earlier today, this statement was released by her Commanding Officer:

The Officers and Soldiers of 2-1 General Support Aviation Battalion deeply mourn the loss of an incredible Soldier, NCO and leader. Corporal Kimberly Walker was a disciplined and focused leader in our Forward Support Company, constantly out in front of her Soldiers, ensuring mission success through engaged leadership and tactical proficiency in her MOS.

Kimberly worked in one of the highest risk formations in the Battalion, our Aviation Refuel Distribution Platoon. She routinely worked underneath turning rotor blades, day, night and in terrible weather, refueling every type of helicopter in the Combat Aviation Brigade while mitigating risk and training the Soldiers under her charge. Kimberly expertly ran the Forward Area Arming/Refuel Point (FARP) at the National Training Center this summer with incredible results, and then she led her section to become the winning team in the Brigade’s FARP Rodeo competition.

Kimberly Walker was the type of Soldier any Battalion Commander would be thrilled to have on his or her team. She will be greatly missed! Every effort and resource available from the Division has been offered and is being utilized to ensure our Soldiers can grieve safely and counseled properly by trained experts. The Fighting Eagles Battalion would like to thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts and support for her friends, family and unit as we take the necessary steps to execute the dignified return of our Soldier to her family, pay our respects and heal from this terrible wound impacted upon us all.”– Lt.
