Standoff ends peacefully in Colorado Springs

A standoff ended with two arrests and no one hurt in Colorado Springs on Thursday afternoon.

The situation began as a domestic problem, according to witnesses at the Cheyenne Vista Apartments in the 400 block of Crestone Lane. A witness told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that they heard a couple arguing and a child screaming.

An armed man, identified as 23-year-old Julian Gutierrez barricaded himself inside the apartment with 26-year-old Christine Aleman and 5-year-old boy around 7:30 a.m. Nearby apartment units were evacuated as a precaution.

Police said Gutierrez was wanted on several other warrants but would not elaborate. Around 1 p.m., the man peacefully surrendered. No one was injured.

Gutierrez was arrested and is charged with a felony weapons possession charge.

Aleman was also arrested and charged with child abuse and criminal negligence charges.

All evacuations have since been lifted.

The boy is currently staying with relatives.
