Eviction voided for family of boy who stole shoes
A low-income family in Grand Junction won’t be evicted after a 13-year-old boy stole a pair of shoes from a department store.
Tanya Abbey, a single mother, told our sister station in Grand Junction, KJCT, that her teenage son got caught shoplifting a pair of shoes because his shoes were worn out and his feet were cold.
The act violated the family’s lease and the the manager of Garden Village apartments said any criminal activity on or near the property is grounds for immediate eviction.
The boy says he didn’t realize his actions would put his entire family at risk.
On Wednesday, KJCT learned that Abbey was also late on her rent. After paying her rent she was told the eviction had been voided.
