Fatal accident along Highway 24 at Constitution Ave.

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Cimarron Hills Fire Department responded to a fatal accident at Constitution Ave. and Highway 24, just before 3 p.m.

According to Colorado State Patrol, a white Ford Fusion was in the process of turning left from eastbound Highway 24 onto westbound Constitution Ave. The driver failed to yield right away and was struck by a black Ford Explorer.

CSP says the driver of the Fusion died at the scene. His name has not been released, but he's been identified as a 24-year-old from Pueblo West.

The driver of the Explorer was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

According to CDOT, the crash caused a full closure for westbound and eastbound lanes between Brookings Dr. and Constitution Ave. along Highway 24. The intersection was closed for approximately three hours.

At this time, drugs, alcohol, and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
