Thieves Accused Of Stealing Historic Jail Cell ID’d
Police have identified four suspects who are accused of stealing a late 1800’s jail cell. Two of them have been arrested and two are still at-large.
CSPD says the jail cell had a long history in Old Colorado City and was believed to be the last remaining cell of that type in the world.
The suspects allegedly cut the cell into scraps and sold it to area recyclers. 27-year-old Charles McNew, 23-year-old Jessica Ramsey, 32-year-old Joshua Vaughn, and 22-year-old Kenneth Hanowell will each be charged with theft — a class four felony.
McNew and Vaughn have been taken into custody. CSPD is still looking for Ramsey and Hanowell. McNew and Vaughn were both on probation during the theft for previous offenses.
