Pueblo Emergency Warming Shelter Closing

The Pueblo Salvation Army announced Tuesday that the Emergency Men’s Shelter operated at Pueblo Corps Community Center is closing.

Due to limited funding and a decrease in donations during the Fundraising Season, the shelter will close on February 15th, 2012.

The Salvation Army says that while it is understands that the night time temperatures are not yet above the freezing point, funding is not available to continue operating the program. The Salvation Army says it has already pulled funds from other programs to keep the shelter open until now. They say this is no longer possible as the other programs, like the Daily Meal program and the Food Pantry would also suffer from the loss of funding.

The Salvation Army says that the decision was not easy and is regrettable. The Salvation Army continues to serve the community of Pueblo, providing meals, food boxes, clothing, Disaster Services, Youth Services, Spiritual Services and other programs.

Any donations offered for the continuation of the Emergency Shelter would have to be received by February 14th.
