Historical Plaque Stolen In Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police say metal thieves have stolen a historical plaque that marks a historical landmark.

It was reported stolen Friday outside the 28 hundred block of West Pikes Peak Avenue.

The plaque is bronze or copper. It reads “This marks the site of the OLD FORT AND STOCKADE built by the pioneers of Old Colorado City used in defense against the indians 1864 and 1868 constructed on logs set on end.”

The plaque has been in place since 1936.

Anyone with information on this theft of this landmark are asked to call police at 444-7000.
