Water Main Breaks At Garden of the Gods, Chestnut
Colorado Springs Utilities said it has repaired a broken water main break at the intersection of Garden of the Gods Road and Chestnut Street.
The break was reported at about 4:30 a.m., said utility spokeswoman Patrice Lehermeier, and was repaired before 7 p.m. However, traffic will continue to be affected because the damaged area must be repaved, a job that should be completed Saturday.
Eastbound traffic on Garden of the Gods will remain reduced to one lane in the work zone, and traffic still will be unable to turn south at Chestnut until repaving is finished.
Lehermeier said workers had trouble isolating the source of the break in the eight-inch cast iron pipe, because a valve controlling water flow to the pipe was covered with debris and had to be cleared first. She said age likely caused the pipe to break.
The only loss of water service, said Lehermeier, was for about 20 minutes to two businesses in the area.
