Man Arrested After Accidentally Shooting Gun

Colorado Springs police arrest a man after they say he fired his gun inside an apartment, the bullet went through a woman’s ceiling.

Officers say they answered the call at the Copperstone Apartments on North Circle Drive at around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. A woman called to tell them that a bullet had ripped through her ceiling into her apartment damaging her patio door.

Police say the man in the apartment above the victim admitted he had a cocked and loaded 45 caliber handgun in his lap while he was on the computer. Anthony Cunningham, 25, told police he was trying to lower the hamer while his finger was on the trigger, thinking the safety was engaged. It wasn’t, and the gun fired into the floor. He checked with his downstairs neighbor to make sure everyone was all right, then returned to his apartment. No one was hurt.

Officers arrested Cunningham on suspicion of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
